June 2012: Farewell to our postdoc Piero Basini, who is now a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, Canada. Good luck in the Great White North!

Feb. 2012: Silvia Salas Romero joined our group as a M.Sc. student in Applied Geophysics. She is working on modeling the Christchurch earthquake of Feb. 2011 in 3D complex media.

Jan. 2012: We welcome visiting Ph.D. student Max Rietmann. Max is a member of Petaquake and enrolled in Computational Sciences at the University of Lugano under the supervision of Olaf Schenk. He will be a resident in our computational seismology group for 2 years, working on GPU-accelerated seismic wave propagation and local timestepping, co-supervised by Tarje Nissen-Meyer.

Dec. 2011/Jan. 2012: Congratulations to our new Ph.D. graduates, Dr. Julie Verbeke and Dr. Steve Della Mora!

Nov. 2011: We welcome our new Ph.D. student Ludwig Auer. He will be working with Lapo Boschi (and Tarje Nissen-Meyer) on global-scale tomography with a focus on anisotropy and consistency with geodynamics & mineralogy.

Oct. 2011: We welcome our new Ph.D. student Martin van Driel. He will be working with Tarje Nissen-Meyer (and Lapo Boschi) on computational aspects of global tomography such as finite-frequency tomography for anisotropic structures and scattering approaches for efficient global-scale wave propagation.

Aug. 2011: Congratulations to Dr. Julia Schaefer and Andrea Tesoniero (M.Sc.) for successfully defending their theses!

July 2011: We are organizing the 2nd QUEST workshop in Iceland, July 12-19, 2011. Scientific sessions will focus on (1) seismic data analysis, (2) source modeling and (3) probabilistic inverse theory & uncertainty analysis.

April 2011: Ph.D. position available in global seismology/geophysics.

Sept. 2010: Our project Petaquake has been featured in an ETH Life article, appearing on the ETH main webpage and a number of other online media.
